Leon Kendall Smith, Jr. went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2015. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Kendall Smith, Sr. and his mother, Francis Stokes Smith, and his brother, Gerald (Jerry) Crawford Smith. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Lawson Smith, and his brother, Samuel F. Smith, and his wife, Laurie, of Georgia. He is also survived by his children: Leon Kendall Smith, III (Ken) and his wife, Chrystal; Natasha Smith and her husband, Timothy; Tracy Merrill, and her, husband James; Matthew Smith, Jimmy Lawson, and his wife, Janet; and Michele Smith Kea. He had twelve grandchildren: Anna, Melissa, Kaitlyn, Dustin, Kyndall Reese, Brook, Samuel, Noah, twins Jack and Wyatt, Ava, and Emmett. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Smith, Ronald and Regina Michel, Mark and Kay Welch. He was originally from Darlington, SC, and bravely served and received a Purple Heart for his time in the Vietnam War. After his service with the United States Marine Corps, he made his home in Milan and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over thirty years. Smith served on the Milan City Board for sixteen years, and actively served on The County Commission, as well. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11am at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday evening from 5 - 8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the COPD Foundation.Org.
