Barbara Williams, life-long resident of Milan, TN died unexpectedly at her home on October 11, 2020. She was 88 years old.
Barbara was born on November 25,1931 in McKenzie, TN to furniture stores owner Herbert Brasfield and his wife Ruth Baker Brasfield. She attended Columbia College, formerly Christian College in Columbia, MO and former Memphis College of Art. Shortly after, she married Dr Philip Williams and raised 5 children and supported him in his medical practice. In addition to being a wonderful mother, she was civically active in the Milan community and in the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church, receiving numerous awards, recognitions and responsibilities. She was an accomplished and prolific artist continuing to create works up until the time of her death. Her pen and inks of Milans historical sites as well as her annual holiday greetings card have been collected and appreciated by many over the years. Throughout her life Barbara loved playing bridge with friends as well as working crossword and sudoku puzzles. She was an accomplished home decorator and gardener. But by far, her greatest contribution and what she will be most remembered for was her ebullience that manifested itself in the incessant, enthusiastic, kindness and cheerfulness she showed to others. She was just a fun person to be around and had close friends of all generations.
She will be missed by all. She is survived by her children Philip (Marianne) of Newport News VA, Herbert (Kathleen) of Norris, TN, Molly Holloway (Bobby), Carrie Butler (Herb) of Newburg, IN and Joe (Suzanne) of LaVergne, TN. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Barry Brasfield.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, no funeral or memorial services have been planned. Contributions may be made to Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Milan Mustard Seed Foundation or the charity of the donors choice.
