Obituary

Clyde Ben Long, affectionately known as Ben to his friends and family, passed away after an extended illness on October 10, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 9, 1948, in the quaint town of Atwood, Ben was a lifelong resident of Tennessee, a state he deeply loved. His final moments were spent surrounded by the love of his family.

He retired from the Carroll County Hwy Department, where his dedication and tireless work ethic were well-known and respected. His passion for the land led him to a life of farming, where he found peace and fulfillment in the rhythms of nature. A man of faith, Ben was an active member of the Atwood Cumberland Presbyterian Church and later the Abundant Life Church in Cedar Grove. His Christian beliefs were the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and providing comfort and strength throughout his journey.

Ben's heart was as vast as the fields he tended. His loving nature was evident in his kindness and generosity, which touched the lives of everyone around him. He was a beacon of light in the community, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement.

Family was the centerpiece of Ben's world. He leaves behind his daughters, Lisa Marie Gordon (Michael) of Milan, Tina Reynolds of Atwood, and Melinda Shumate of Atwood a son, Allen Campbell of Cedar Grove one sister, Brenda Brown (Johnny) of Greenfield, and three brothers, Glynn Long (Pat), Ricky Long (Debbie), and Randy Long (Joann), all of Atwood, will remember him fondly as a loving brother. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, who will carry his memory forward. Ben was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Danna Long, his son Donnie Campbell, and his parents, Clyde and Dorothy Smith Long. His absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the cherished memories he created with his loved ones.

His love for motorsports found a home at Clayhill Motor Park, where he was a familiar face and a friend to many. His involvement in the park was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his love for community and the joy he found in shared experiences.

As we say goodbye to Clyde Ben Long, we celebrate a life well-lived. A life filled with love, service, and the simple joys that make up the rich tapestry of a life that was truly lived for others will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 2 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Pisgah Cemetery in Atwood.
