Betty Jewell James Hudspeth (83), passed away Saturday, June 18th, 2022. Betty lived a life full of travels and adventures. She loved to travel out west, take countless pictures, shop till she dropped, and tell fantastical stories, but, above all else, she loved her family.
Betty was born on April 5th, 1939 in Milan, TN to Phillip Harrison and Betty Ola James.
Besides her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Cletus Douglas and her sister, Wanda Sue Bullington.
Betty is survived by her brother, Harold James, her three children: Paula Webster (Mark), Jeff Hudspeth (Sandra), and Jenny Livengood (Mark), her six grandchildren: Noah Webster, Grace Barickman (Aaron), Dinah DeWitt (Michael), Lizzy Angelo (Lukus), Rachel Bell (Kendall), and Devin Valenza (Allison), and her five great-grandchildren: Wyatt and June Barickman, Olivia and Elsie Bell, and Henry DeWitt, she also leaves behind her partner of over 2 decades, Billy Tidwell, whom she loved dearly.
Betty and her late ex-husband, Paul Hudspeth, served twenty years together as a part of the United States Air Force. Together they raised three children and traveled all over the world in service of their country. After they divorced, Betty worked at Walmart for over twenty years. While working there, she met Johnny Cash, who kissed her on the cheek one day in her cashiers laneher own small claim-to-fame.
Betty will be remembered for everything she was, no matter how big or small: the way her purse smelled like spearmint Extra gum, her "I Love Bluegrass" bumper sticker, her animated voices, her long, tight hugs that left you bruised, her famous banana pudding, her little blue car with countless kitty paw prints scattered all over the hood, her hundreds upon hundreds of photographs from her travels, her ability to make friends no matter where she went, her devotion to her family, and both her fearlessness and her fears. Her beauty touched many and will live on through them. She will be missed but never, ever forgotten.
