Mr. William Eugene "Bill" Ownby, age 80 of Milan, passed away on February 21, 2019, at Vanderbilt Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in McKenzie, TN on March 14, 1938, to John Rollin and Oteria Bunn Ownby. He graduated from Bethel College and retired from Ceco Door Products as a Quality & Environmental Manager. Bill was an active member of the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, sang in the choir, and assisted in numerous children/youth programs. He was a lifetime Mason and a past Chairman of the Board for the Milan Special School District. He was an avid outdoorsman and master handyman, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and helping friends with various projects. Bill was blessed with a large loving family and his greatest pleasure came from spending time with them. Funeral service for Mr. Ownby will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday from 11 am 2 pm at the church. He is survived by his wife Liz Ownby of Milan, three children Will Ownby (Nicole) of Milan , Debbie McManus (Ty) of Milan and Dr. Cindy Jones (Ed) of Murfreesboro, a brother James Ownby (Joanne) of McKenzie, a sister Wanda McCaskey (Charles) of Cookeville, and eight grandchildren, Sara Beth Marashi (Al) of Sarasota, FL, Lee Jones (Ariel) of Murfreesboro, Charlee Ownby, Julia McManus, Matthew McManus, Jacob Lowery, Hope Ownby and Keaton Ownby all of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Joyce Ownby. Memorials may be directed to the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church Expansion Fund.
