Obituary

Bobby Jack Hicks, known to many simply as Bobby, passed away on April 7, 2026, at his residence following a short illness. He was born on March 27, 1937, in Lavinia, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by kindness, steady faith, and devotion to the people he loved.

Bobby was a friendly, funny, and wise man whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him. He carried himself with quiet strength and a warm spirit, and he was the kind of person who made others feel welcome in his company. His family and friends will remember him not only for his good humor and practical wisdom, but also for the genuine care he showed in everyday life.

He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jo Anne Hicks, and a loving father to his children, Darlene Hicks, Jacqueline Walker, Melissa Jo Neal and her husband Doug, and Angela Eubanks and her husband Bobby. He was also a proud brother to Susan Hick. Bobby found great joy in his family, and he treasured the time he spent with his six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. His love for them was steady and unwavering, and his legacy will continue through the generations who knew his affection and guidance.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Melton Roy and Hassie Hamilton Hicks, as well as his brothers Muriel Hicks and Ronnie Hicks and his sisters Peggy McDowell and Donna Thomas. He carried the memory of his family with him throughout his life and remained connected to the roots and values that shaped him from an early age.

A hardworking man, Bobby retired from Delta United Painting and Drywall in Memphis after years of faithful service. His work ethic, reliability, and dedication were evident to all who knew him. He approached his responsibilities with pride and consistency, and his long career reflected the same dependable character that guided every part of his life.

Bobby was also an active member of the NRA and a 50-year Mason, honors that reflected his interests, commitments, and long-standing involvement in the organizations that were meaningful to him. He valued fellowship, tradition, and the bonds of brotherhood, and he remained dedicated to those associations throughout much of his life.

A Christian by faith, Bobby lived with a belief in the importance of family, integrity, and treating others with respect. His faith was an important part of who he was, and it offered him strength and comfort through the years. Those who knew him will remember a man who lived with humility and grace, and who left behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter.
