Obituary

DANIEL'S OBITUARY Mr. Daniel Lee "Dan" Carter, age 82, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on September 19, 1939 in Milan, Tennessee. He was the loving son of the late Harvey T. and Mary Elizabeth Frazier Carter. He spent his child and early teen years in Milan, Tennessee before the family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1955. Dan graduated from Marshall High School in 1957 and then majored in business at Morton Junior College. Dan was united in marriage to Charlotte Curry on August 12, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. Dan began his 50-year career with Sears in 1957 at the original Sears store in Chicago, Illinois. He held many different positions with the company, ranging from shipping/receiving clerk, assistant office manager, personnel manager to buyer manager. Dan and Charlotte moved to Richmond, Kentucky in 1975 before settling down in Madison in 1978. He worked in Madison for many years and eventually bought the Sears Hometown Store in 2010. After Sears closed the catalog store in 1996, he served as building inspector for the City of Madison, headed the Madison Regatta as executive director, accommodated vehicle transportation for local dealers and worked as a salesman for Redwood homes. Dan was a huge supporter of the Madison Regatta serving as president, vice president and race chairman. Dan retired in 2018 after he suffered a major stroke. Dan was also a member of the YMCA Indian Guides, Sons of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge #581, Jefferson County EMA Director, plus served as county chair of the Republican Party for many years. He loved spending time with his family, especially being a Poppy to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. If he wasnt working at a public job, he enjoyed being outside mowing, trimming and keeping his yard neat. And if not doing that, Dan delighted in going to yard sales and tinkering in the garage. He also found pleasure in playing an occasional round of golf with friends and occupying a seat in Jon Peddie's garage. Dan enjoyed his pets, especially with them sitting on his lap while he watched NASCAR and Tennessee Volunteer football or listened to old country or gospel music. Dan was of the Christian faith and held a membership at Walnut Grove Methodist Church and North Madison Christian Church. Dan passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hanover Health & Rehab Center in Hanover, Indiana. LOVING FAMILY Dan will be missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Charlotte Curry Carter of Madison, Indiana; his sons, Mike Carter and his wife Jeanna of Madison, Indiana, Steve Carter and his wife Cindy of Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren, Jedidiah Carter, Aubreanna Carter, Kealyn Jester (Richard), Wyatt Carter (Katelyn); his great grandchildren, Dawson Gray, Leeah Jester, and one expected in 2022; his brother, Bob Carter and his wife Rachel of Milan, Tennessee; his nieces, Sharon Lantz of Ohio, Karen Lamprecht and her husband Mike of Tennessee, Becky Dodd and her husband Dale of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey T. Carter, his mother, Mary Elizabeth Frazier Carter, his brother, Edgar Carter, his sister, Dorothy Carter, his nephews, Tommy Carter and Jeffery Carter, his sister in law, Minnie Fuchs, his father in law, Charles Alfred Curry, their beloved aunt, Annie Curry. FUNERAL CEREMONY Private funeral services are being scheduled and will be held in Milan, Tennessee. Interment will follow in the funeral service in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Milan, Tennessee.
