Obituary

Funeral services for Milans Danny Richard Denton will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Bodkin Funeral Home. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Bodkin Funeral Home. Mr. Denton was 74 years old at the time of his death in Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Denton was born in Trenton, Tenn., and lived most of his life in Milan. He was a proud member of the United States Army and he spent two years in Korea while serving his country. For years, Mr. Denton proudly flew an American flag in his yard as tribute to his love for his country. Mr. Denton worked at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant, ITT, Maytag and OMC in Lexington and FedEx Ground. Anyone who received a package delivered by Mr. Denton knew the care and precision he took throughout the entire process. Mr. Denton will likely be remembered in Milan for his volunteer work to assist others. Mr. Denton worked as a volunteer at the Milan Little League for three decades and spearheaded the leagues expansion to a multi-field complex near the Milan City Park. Mr. Denton was an exemplary umpire and was chosen to work the 1991 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., and the 1990 Little League Southeast Regional. Later, Mr. Denton was awarded the "Volunteer of the Year" honor by the Milan YMCA for his work with the children there. Also, Mr. Denton participated in Milans "Meals on Wheels" program so that he could make sure that no one ever went hungry or without a nutritious meal. In recent years, Mr. Denton was an active participant at the Milan Senior Citizens Center. The friendships, love, card and domino games and add-a-dish meals at the center filled his heart with joy. Members there are sure to remember his quick wit, broad smile, willingness to cook for others and his competitiveness at the card table. Mr. Denton is survived by his two children, Suzanne Denton Bingham (and Ron Bingham) and John Denton and two step children, Heather Bass and Lee Bass (Elizabeth. His wife, Linda Denton, died in April of 2021. Mr. Denton also had nine grandchildren Hunter Stewart, Hailey Goodwin, Abby Denton, Morgan Bufkin, Hannah Bass, Wesley Bass, Alivia Bass, Julian Sanders, Amia Taylor. Mr. Denton adored those grandchildren, did anything in his power to help them and boasted about them at any given opportunity. Mr. Dentons parents, R.K. and Nannie Mae Denton, preceded him in death. His brothers, Donnie and Keith Denton, and sister, Juanita Denton Cates, also preceded him in death. Mr. Denton is survived by older sister, Linda Denton Tubbs (and Martin Tubbs), and younger sister, Sherri Denton McAlexander. Flower arrangements can be sent to Bodkin Funeral Home.
