Mr. William Darrell Warren, age 89, passed from this life on March 29, 2024, at JMCGH as a result of complications of a stroke suffered on March 26, 2024.
Darrell, affectionately known as "Pop" or "Pap", was born December 15, 1934 in Carroll County, TN and was the seventh of nine children born to Hallard Ezra Warren and Eva Jane Spain Warren. He was raised in the Lavinia, TN area and attended Clark School. He was raised in a farming family and later sharecropped and logged with a team of mules before going to work in 1963 for the Buford Ellington 4-H Center in Milan. During his tenure there, he was in charge of Maintenance. Later, around 1981, he was transferred to the UT Ag Research and Education Center retiring in 1996.
In the early years, Darrell attended Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and was currently attending Cool Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed many years singing gospel music in various capacities and was known for singing with a trio on the radio in McKenzie, TN.
Interests over the years included providing wagon rides for events, horse shows, plowing with mules, horse and buggy riding, helping friends and neighbors, rabbit hunting, camping, talking about old times, gardening and mowing the lawn. He looked forward every year to mowing season and being busy outdoors. He also relished his tight-knit family relationships.
Pop was predeceased by his parents, his brothers including Clayburn E. Warren (late Jewell), Donald Wayne Warren, Jesse Lloyd Warren (Ollie Dean Warren Lifsey), Troy H. Warren (late Eulene), his sisters including Elizabeth Warren, Marie Warren Bartholomew (late Haywood), and Dorothy Sue Warren Etheridge (late Carroll), Dales's mother, Norma Lynn Taylor Warren Robbins, his daughter-in-law Kimberly Mewbourn Warren, niece, Sandra Warren and nephews Gary Warren and Mike Warren.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patsy Pillow Stafford Warren, his son, Dale Warren (Cindy), his stepsons, Ricky Stafford (Tammy), David Stafford (late Gayle) and Mike Stafford (Missy), his brother, Harrell Dean Warren and wife Millie Williams and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves nieces and nephews Travis Bartholomew, Randy Bartholomew, Kenny Bartholomew, Debbie Voyles, David Etheridge, Danny Etheridge, Marcus Warren and Donna Coleman and their families and other extended family. Last but not least, he is survived by his loyal horse companion Frisco who has taken him on many buggy rides and followed every command.
The Funeral Service will be held on April 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Lavinia. Visitation will be on April 2, 2024 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM and on April 3, 2024 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM.
Memorials may be sent to Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery Fund as Darrell dearly loved this cemetery where the Warren family members are interred. Memorials may be addressed to Scotty Clarke, 9470 Terry Rd., Cedar Grove, TN 38321.
