Donnie Shelton Bynum, age 69 of Milan, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Donnie was born on September 18, 1952, in Memphis, TN to the late James Bynum and Margie Genelle Bynum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Faith Bynum. He is survived by his wife, Treva D. Bynum; daughters: Candace Gay Atherton and Alexa "Lexie" Selene Bynum; son: James Trevor Bynum; stepdaughters: Amy Scarbrough and Cindy Allen; siblings: Shirley Jean Groves, Janie Rogers, Buddy Bynum, Donna Hudson (twin), and Carolyn Arnett; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 fur babies: Charlie and Bella.
Raised in Memphis, TN in a family of 6 children, Donnie graduated from Fairley High School. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army as a Communications Specialist and served his country for 6 years. In 1980, he moved to Milan and worked for the Army as a Quality Assurance Specialist at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant. Donnie worked at MAAP for 32 years until his retirement in 2012.
Donnies love of scouting in his youth led him to later serve as a leader in Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts (Pack 50), and as a member of the West Tennessee Area Council, BSA. He loved spending his time outdoors camping, fishing, grilling, and sitting in the yard chatting with friends and family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 5:008:00 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan, TN, and again on Thursday, March 3 from 12:002:00 PM. Services will then be held promptly at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or the American Heart Association.
