Obituary

Doris Yvonne Allen of Milan, Tennessee passed away on August 9, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Maude McEwen Jones; husband, Marvin L. Allen; brothers, Charles Robert Jones, Paul Jones, Tyree Jones, Welton Jones, Max Jones; and sisters, Annie Lou Edmonds, Agnes Johnson, and Sue Dorsett. She is survived by sons David Allen (Christi) of Dyersburg, TN, Dale Allen (Julie) of Nashville, TN, Don Allen of Greenfield, TN, and daughter Diane Allen (Roy) of Jackson, TN. She is also survived by grandchildren Ben Allen, Mary Beth Allen, Cody Jones (Meagan), Alyson McCoy (Clay), Jack Allen, and great-grandchildren Carley McCoy and Maggie McCoy. Doris was the last surviving child of parents born in the late 1890s. She grew up with her brothers and sisters on the Jones family farm in the Oak Grove Community between Milan and Trenton. They all led wonderful lives attending the Oak Grove Baptist Church, serving their country in wars, supporting their community and neighbors, and working the family farm. Doris attended the Concord and Moores Chapel schools and later Milan High School. After marrying Marvin L. Allen, she and her husband lived in Bradford, TN for many years. She helped raise her four children, got them off to school every day, attended her children's school events, and even assisted as a scorekeeper for little league baseball games. She was a huge and loyal fan of the Tennessee Titans, Tennessee Volunteers and attended several Nashville Predators games in Nashville. Doris faithfully attended the Bradford First Baptist Church during the time she lived in Bradford. After her husband's passing in 1996, Doris continued to live in Bradford and eventually moved to Milan which remained her home for many years. She made many new friends in Milan and enjoyed attending the Milan First Baptist Church. Doris loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. She was especially grateful for the assistance and support from her many nephews, nieces, and their families for so many years. Her family is very thankful for the medical assistance and caregiving provided by the staff at the Christian Care Center in Medina, TN during the last few months of her life. Visitation will be held at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan, TN on Saturday, August 12th from 10 AM 12 PM. A funeral service will be conducted immediately after visitation at 12 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home, with burial afterward at the Bradford Cemetery in Bradford, TN. Pallbearers are Mary Beth Allen, Ben Allen, Alyson McCoy, Clay McCoy, Cody Jones, and Jack Allen.
