Edward Wayne
Davis
April 7, 1943 – May 17, 2025
Edward Wayne Davis, age 82 of Milan, passed away May 17, 2025, at The Waters of McKenzie. He was born in Keno, Kentucky on April 7, 1943, to the late Ernest and Glenna Taylor Davis.
While Ed is most known for his sense of humor and being the only fish farmer around, he was once a middle school science teacher and basketball coach in Ohio. During his time teaching, he worked summers for a fish farm and fell in love with the lifestyle. He soon realized that he wanted to fish farm full time. After a brief stint in Arkansas, the big move to Milan came in 1972, where he managed Creswell Lakes. Ed was later able to purchase the farm in the early 80's and created the Ed Davis Fish Farm. He raised minnows, catfish, tilapia, Santa Gertrudis cattle, hay, and three wonderful children.
Ed instilled by example the value of a hard day's work and the idea that "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." While nobody can spin a yarn the way Ed could, everybody agrees that "people need to laugh." Ed worked very hard in his farm life and, if possible, even harder in making everybody laugh!!
Ed is survived by his children, Jenny Fagin and husband Dan of Milan, Sarah Ledford and husband Clete of Milan, Andrew Davis and wife Jean of Milan; grandchildren, Sam and Ella Fagin, Jed, Jake, and Scout Ledford, Quinn, Daphne, and Dane Davis; former wife and mother of children, Mary Feltz; sisters, Collen Davis, Brenda Opperman, and Joanie Henry of Sidney, Ohio; and longtime girlfriend, Judy Ward of Bradford.
Ed was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Milan. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 AM Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at St Matthews Catholic Church in Milan. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM at St Matthews.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Paul's Kitchen c/o The Mustard Seed 2027 S 2nd St, Milan, TN 38358, or to the new Ed Davis Scholarship Fund to be given to a student pursuing a degree in agriculture at Citizen's Bank and Trust 1359 West Main (physical address) or PO Box 129 (mailing address) Atwood, TN 38220.
