Funeral service for Mr. Ernest Willard Jones, age 99 of Milan, will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday from 2 3 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Jones was born on September 19, 1924 in Hartsville, TN to William and Myrtle Huddleston Jones. During WW II, he served his country in the Army Air Corp and was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with seven Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the Distinguished Unit Citation and the WW II Victory Ribbon. Part of the battles and campaigns he fought in included Ardennes, Rome-Arno, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Southern France and Central Europe. Following his military service, he worked for and later retired from the Milan Army Ammunition Plant. He attended the Milan First Baptist Church for many years where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Jones was also a member of the Milan Masonic Lodge #191, a Life Member of the Milan American Legion #118, a Life Member of the VFW Post #4780 and a member of the Milan Lions Club. Mr. Jones is survived by a daughter Penney Benson of Cullowhee, NC two grandchildren William H. Benson III of Tallahassee, FL and Dawn M. Hanson (Bryan) of Tallahassee, FL and four great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy "Dot" Jones and a brother Elton R. Jones
