Obituary

Jack F. Medling, who was born on October 5, 1931, in Greenfield, Tennessee, and who departed this life on April 2, 2026, at Dogwood Pointe in Milan, Tennessee, lived a long and faithful life marked by wit, wisdom, devotion, and steadfast love.

He was a man of rare character, one whose days were shaped by service to others and whose manner was ever brightened by a quick humor and an intelligent mind. Those who knew him well will remember that he could bring a smile with ease, for he was funny in spirit and keen in thought.

Jack devoted many years to education, and after working several years, he retired from Milan Junior High School as a teacher. In that noble calling, he gave of himself to young minds, guiding students with patience and purpose. He understood that learning is a lamp that may light the way for generations, and he labored faithfully in that work. His influence reached beyond the classroom, for the lessons he taught were not only of books and discipline, but also of character, respect, and perseverance.

He was also a dedicated member of Main Street Church of Christ, where his Christian faith was a steady compass throughout his life. In worship and fellowship, he found strength, and in service, he found meaning. His faith was not a thing spoken only in word, but lived in deed, in humility, in constancy, and in the gentle manner by which he treated others. Truly, he walked in the light he professed, and his life bore witness to the goodness of a heart anchored in belief.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores Cotton Medling, whose memory remained dear to him. He was also preceded by his parents, Will C. Medling and Novie Monroe Medling, as well as four brothers and three sisters, all of whom have gone before him into eternity.

He is survived by his daughter, Kerry Jay Taylor of Milan, Tennessee; his granddaughter, Olivia Chappell and her husband Jerel of Henderson, Tennessee; and his great-grandchild, Pierce Chappell of Henderson, Tennessee. These dear ones carry forward his name, his memory, and the enduring fruit of his life. In them, his story continues, and in their hearts, his laughter, wisdom, and affection shall long abide.
