Jerry
Crossett
September 22, 1943 – February 12, 2025
Jerry Mullins Crossett went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 22, 1943, in Trezevant, Tennessee to Andrew and Beatrice Mullins Crossett.
He graduated from Trezevant High School in 1961 and from Union University in 1966. He met his wife, Sherry, at Union University where they served on revival teams together and married in 1966. He attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for two years before he joined the U. S. Army in 1969. He became a helicopter pilot, flying "Huey" and OH-58 helicopters, and completed one tour in Vietnam. He retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992 and his last assignment was in Stuttgart, Germany as the Executive Officer for the 6th Area Support Group, Greater Stuttgart Military Community during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During his career he received multiple Meritorious Service Awards and Army Commendation Medals.
He loved the Lord and his family. He taught a men's Sunday school class for over 25 years at First Baptist Church of Milan and sang in the church choir for over 30 years. He loved music and walked around singing and humming hymns. Some of his favorites were "Because He Lives" and "Amazing Grace." He loved to rabbit and bird hunt and enjoyed fishing. He had a true servant's heart and loved helping everyone. Even in the last weeks of his life, he consistently asked if there was anything he could do for us. His love for the Lord was obvious to all who knew him. His sweet, humble, and kind spirit will never be equaled or forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sherry Rogers Crossett of Atwood. Their four children are Cathy (Mark) Edwards of Birmingham, AL; David (Ashley) Crossett of Buford, GA; Carrie Crossett of Atwood and Andrew (Elly) Crossett of Milan. His cherished grandchildren are Jamie and Brady Edwards of Birmingham, AL; Ked, Marigrace, and Luke Crossett of Buford, GA; and Grace, Andie and Leo Crossett of Milan. He also leaves a sister, Helen Camper, of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dorothy Ann Phillips.
Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2025, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Milan. The service will be at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Howse Baptist Church in Atwood. Pall bearers are David Crossett, Andrew Crossett, Mark Edwards, Jamie Edwards, Brady Edwards, Ked Crossett, Luke Crossett, and Leo Crossett. Honorary pall bearers are Marigrace Crossett, Grace Crossett, and Andie Crossett.
