Jerry Franklin Wayland passed away the first of June, 2017 at his home in Atwood, Tennessee at the age of 75. He was born on August 16th, 1941 in Raum, Illinois. Jerry grew up in Peoria, Illinois. He joined the Navy in 1961 and served for 20 years. He served in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of multiple medals and awards for his service. He retired in 1981 achieving the rank of E8 Senior Chief Petty Officer. Jerry married Linda Prokesh in 1963 in Peoria, Illinois. They were happily married for 53 years. Jerry was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his many cats. He also loved bringing joy to children who saw him as Santa. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his son Terry Wayland. Jerry is lovingly rememberd by his wife Linda, his daughter Sherry Crooks and her husband Mark, his grandchildren Ryan Crooks and his wife Leslie, Taylor Crooks, Sara Crooks, Jeremy Crooks, Berry Page, Candice Page and her fiance Wesley Chambers, Chrystal Turner and her husband Steven, and Barbara Lenderman and her husband John, his great grandson Nickeli, his sister Prudy Riendeau, and his brother Alvin Wayland A celebration of life service will be held at the Main Street Church of Christ in Milan, Tennessee on June 9th, 2017 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Societys Harrahs Hope Lodge at 718 Union Ave, Memphis, TN 38103 or Partners 4 Africa at Main Street Church of Christ C/O Partners 4 Africa P.O. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be deeply missed.
