Joanne Moore Jones Dec. 25, 1930 Nov. 26, 2020 Born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1930, Joanne Moore Jones was known for her spirit of charity, kindness and benevolence shown throughout her life to her family, friends and community in Gibson County, TN. A Milan native, Joanne influenced hundreds of students as a public school teacher in Milan and Humboldt for approximately 36 years, retiring in 1992 and residing near Humboldt and Gibson Wells with her husband, Richard Jones. Ms. Jones, 89, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, 2020 at Jackson-Madison Co. General Hospital after being injured in a fall at her home two days earlier. Her family will have a private, graveside service Monday, Nov. 30 at 1 pm. at Milan's Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Dan Camp, former pastor at Milan First United Methodist Church, a minister whom Joanne worked with on church matters and came to know well, will preside. A 1948 graduate of Milan High School, where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen, Joanne earned a degree in education from the Univ. of Tenn. and a Masters from Murray State Univ. Throughout her life, she was active in leadership roles at Milans First United Methodist Church and Follis Chapel United Methodist Church near Trenton. She served for many years as a regular volunteer and board member at the Milan Mustard Seed goodwill agency, an organization which her mother, Norine Moore helped establish. A passionate reader and follower of current events, Joanne was a member and host of a local book club group. She was also an enthusiastic gardener and lover of the arts, working several years as a volunteer in stage shows performed by Nite Lite Theater of Gibson Co. Ms. Jones was preceded in death by parents, Norine Bramley Moore and John Butler "J.B." Moore of Milan; a son, Michael Pillow; daughter, Deborah Pillow Ladenstrom; and grandson, Jay Allen. Joanne is survived by her husband, Richard Jones of Humboldt, and a sister, Mary Moore Collins of Milan (husband Fred Collins), son McLean (Meredith) and children, Lamar and Carmen of Nashville. Joanne also leaves three daughters, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: daughter Susan Pillow Short (Steve Short) of Milan and their children: Rachel Short Minton of Flagstaff, AZ and Jessica Short of LaVergne, TN; daughter Kathi Pillow Prather (William David "Bill" Prather) of Union City, TN and their children Brittany Prather Cole (Trent Cole), children Tanner Cole and Naomi Cole of Union City; and William Seth Prather (Lyndsey Roney Prather) and children Pyper Prather and Kyzer Prather of Union City; daughter Charlotte Jones Wiseman (Paul Wiseman) and their daughter, Addie Wiseman of Memphis; and Charlottes son, Blake Steed of Memphis. daughter Deborah Pillow Ladenstrom (deceased), (husband Tomas Ladenstrom of Sweden) and Deborahs children: Chance Harris and Shane Harris of Memphis, and Dustin Harris (Leah) and daughter, Madelyn Harris of Orlando, FL, and Dustins daughter, Kaylie Harris of Milan, TN.
