John Riley
Taylor
January 30, 1933 – February 19, 2025
John Riley Taylor, 92, died Wednesday, February 19th surrounded by family at his home in Milan, TN. He was born on January 30, 1933, to Clarence and Mattie Taylor. Johnny attended Milan High School. He graduated in 1951 and married his high school classmate, Margaret Scott, on March 11, 1955. They resided in Milan all 66 years of their married life and were blessed with four children: Scott (Franky) Taylor, Sue (Bobby) Sharp, Shayne (Stacy) Taylor and Mary Frances Lewelling Hall.
Along with his brother, Guy Taylor, Johnny owned and operated Taylor Brothers Farm in McKenzie and Taylor Brothers Construction in Milan. He loved every minute he spent farming, building houses and developing property, but mostly he loved working alongside his brother, sons, and nephews. Johnny chose to follow Christ at an early age and did so faithfully for the remainder of his life. He was a longtime, devoted member and deacon of Northside Baptist Church in Milan. Johnny was typically the life of any party and was always looking for ways to serve and help others. He was known by his family and friends to be one of the hardest working men they knew. Later in life, he loved to fish with his brother and good friend, LaVaughn Dowland. Always, he kept the road hot looking at land and just enjoying God's creation.
Johnny is survived by his children as well as his grandchildren Maddie (Conrad) Ratchford, Clare (Mac) Barnes, Lindsey Ramsey, Rilee (Chris) White, Mary Jean Hall and Camille (Daniel) Noe; his great-grandchildren Sage, Robin and Violet Ratchford, Eliza and Drew Barnes, Cooper Ramsey, Kinlee, Channing, Blakelee and Oliver White and Aurora and Orion Noe. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother.
Funeral services will take place at 12:00 PM Monday at Northside Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Visitation with the family will take place Sunday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Monday from 11:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Northside Baptist Church at 5001 Patton Street, Milan, TN 38358.
