Obituary

Johnny Rex Oliver, known affectionately as John to his friends and family, left this world on February 18, 2026, at the age of 79, in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on September 30, 1946, in the small town of Cades, Tennessee, John grew up in a lively household that would shape his robust character and love for adventure.

John was a proud alumnus of the Olivers Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His sharp intellect and curious mind were evident to all who knew him.

After completing his education, John answered the call to serve his country and joined the U.S. Air Force. His military career was marked by courage and a pioneering spirit, which earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. Upon retiring from the Air Force, John carried with him the discipline and honor that would define his civilian life.

Throughout his life, John was known for his intelligence, adventurous nature, and courageous spirit. He approached life with a zest that was contagious, inspiring those around him to seek out new experiences and challenge their own boundaries.

John was a beloved member of a large family who cherished him deeply. He is survived by his brother, Danny Oliver and his wife Mary; his sisters, Linda Cole and Martha Hampton; his special nephew, Merrick Ing; and several other devoted nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ruby Yearwood Oliver; his siblings, James Herbert Oliver, Freida Jane Crocker, Mary Frances Irby, Thelma Ing, Virginia Oliver, and Jo Ann Bryant. Each family member played a significant role in his life, and their shared memories will keep his spirit alive.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 22, at 2 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial with full military honors to follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Milan. Visitation will be held at Bodkin Funeral Home on Sunday from 12 - 2 PM.
