Larry King, a cherished and respected figure in his community, passed away on the 10th of September 2025, at the age of 85 in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on January 15, 1940, in Wayne, Michigan, Larry was the beloved son of the late Jesse and Mary Lucille Gowan King. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who left a legacy of kindness and wisdom that will be warmly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Larry graduated from Trezevant High School in 1958, marking the beginning of a life characterized by hard work and dedication. His career saw him retire from Tower Automotive, where he was known for his diligence and commitment to excellence. Larry's work ethic was admired by colleagues and friends alike, and his influence within the industry was significant.
He was a devoted family man, leaving behind his wife, Joann King of Atwood, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. His daughters, Lori Fishel and her husband Jim of Columbia, and Stacy King of Atwood, will remember their father as a guiding light in their lives. Larry's love for his family extended to his grandchildren, Kendall Wargo and her husband Jeff of Jackson, and Chase Nelson of Nashville. His great-granddaughter, Tegan Wargo of Jackson, will grow up hearing wonderful stories about the great man her great-grandfather was
Larry's love for his farm was more than just a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for nature and the simple joys of life. Larry was a member of McLemoresville Methodist Church.
Those who knew Larry would describe him as a loving individual whose presence brought comfort and happiness. He was wise, often sharing insights that helped guide those around him through life's challenges. His kindness was felt by everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.
His life will be honored in a service on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 1 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Hopewell Cemetery in Lavinia. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening from 5 - 8 PM and on Thursday from 11 AM - 1 PM at the funeral home.
