Funeral service for Lt. Col. George Alexander Fain, age 95 of Milan, will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 2 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Visitation with the family will held on Sunday evening from 5 8 PM and on Monday from 12 -2 PM at the funeral home.
He was born on July 21, 1927 in St. Petersburg, FL to Dan and Wilda Judge Fain. George was a member of the Milan First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and he was a retired Superintendent from the Milan Department of Public Utilities Water Department.
Col. Fain enlisted in the U S Marine Corps and served during WW II. Following his discharge from the Marines, he enlisted and later retired from the TN Army National Guard as a Lt. Colonel. All totaled, he served 41 years in the U S Armed Forces.
George was a life member of the VFW Post #4780, a life member of the American Legion #118, a member of the Masonic Lodge #191, a member of the Al Chymia Shrine Temple in Memphis, a life member of the American Water Works ASSN, a life member of the National Guard USA ASSN, a life member of the TN National Guard ASSN, a life member of the Reserve Officers ASSN. He served as a TSSAA high school football official for over 50 years and was inducted into the Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame.
George is survived by his children Dan Fain of Florida and Mary Lynn Bryant (Mike) of Milan and two grandchildren Faine Elizabeth Williams (David) of Milan and Zach Fuchs of Milan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Lynn Johnson Fain and a brother John R. "Jack" Fain.
