Services for Maggie Brasfield, age 92 of Milan, will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 1 PM at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Obion County Memorial Gardens near Union City at 3:30 PM. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 AM – 1 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brasfield died on August 13 at Median Christian Care. She was born on September 22, 1931, in Obion County, the oldest daughter of five children to the late Frank Louis and Martha Lou "Totsie" Coleman Carpenter.
Maggie worked at Salant & Salant of Union City where she was a seamstress and sowed pockets on pants. When they moved to Gibson, she worked at ITT for 22 years as a printed circuit board inspector in quality control. After the plant in Milan closed, she worked at Metallic Metals in Humboldt for two years and then at the Milan Arsenal for eight years. Her and her husband Ira lived in Gibson and attended the Gibson Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Ira Slyvester Brasfield and two sisters Marget Felix and Frankie France.
She is survived by two brothers Henry Carpenter (Brenda) of Springville, TN and Tommy Carpenter (Mary Ann) of Reeves, TN, a daughter Glenda Tharp (Lynn) of Thomasville, GA, two sons Dwayne Brasfield (Melissa) of Humboldt and Steven Brasfield (Lynn) of Milan, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Gibson Baptist Church Youth Center.
The family would like to extend their thankfulness to Dogwood Pointe, Medina Christian Care and Gentiva Hospice for all the love and care that was given to Mrs. Brasfield.
