Obituary

Maxine Easter Strickland, age 92, died March 8, 2022, at the Tennessee Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN. Maxine was born August 17, 1929, in Watseka, IL to Frank and Elsie Easter. She served in the US Air Force as a weather observer/forecaster and retired from Federal Civil Service at Ft Bragg, NC. She was a member of the First Christian Church in North Carolina and Milan, TN where she served as a choir member and director. She was a cake decorator extraordinaire and earned awards for her work in Family Services with the Air Force. She loved her family, church, and friends. She enjoyed traveling, crosswords, helping people, music, and dancing. Her fondest memories of her childhood involved racing around in her dad's car in the wilds of Illinois with her sisters and friends, creating (mild) havoc. She knew how to look a horse in the eye to see if he'd win a race and learned to always bet on Shoemaker. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James "Strick" Strickland. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Strickland from Efland, NC and Karen (Bruce) Laird from Trenton, TN, grandchildren, Daniel (Chelsea) Laird and Jennifer Laird, and great granddaughters, Kaya, Allie, and Sophya. She loved and was loved and will be missed. A memorial service for Maxine will take place at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time at the church.
