Melba Sue Crocker, a beloved homemaker and devoted member of Belew's Chapel General Baptist Church, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Regency Retirement Village of Jackson. Born on February 4, 1930, in Milan, Tennessee, Melba lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to her family and a passion for exploring the world.
Throughout her years, Melba embraced the role of homemaker with grace and steadfast commitment, creating a nurturing and warm environment for those she loved. She found great joy in traveling, journeying to many corners of the globe, and enriching her life with the diverse cultures and experiences she encountered.
Melba is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lay (John) of Oakland, Tennessee; her sister, Claire Bramley (Elmer Lynn) of Milan; grandchildren Jason Marcle (Amy) of Bradford, Wade Lay (Jannette) of Marion, Arkansas, and Ryan Lay of Boise, Idaho; as well as great-grandchildren Haley Ferraro (Steven), Isaac Lay, and Abbigail Lay. Their lives reflect the loving legacy she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Crocker, parents, Jessie Lee Oliver and Ida Mae McGowan Oliver; her cherished daughter, Robbie Mae Marcle; her brother, John Wesley Oliver; and her sisters Lura Cantrell, Juanita Pafford, Geneva Reynolds, Jessie Jo White, Bille Marie Tharp, and Martha Ellen McNabb.
The family will honor Melba’s memory with a funeral service on June 4, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m., held at Bodkin Funeral Home, located at 2000 N 1st St, Milan, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time, providing an opportunity for friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance and celebrate the enduring impact of Melba’s life. Burial will follow in the Belew's Chapel Cemetery.
Melba Sue Crocker’s steadfast faith, her love for her family, and her adventurous spirit remain an inspiring testament to a life well lived. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and cherished by those who carry her memory forward.
