Olivia Gardner Lawler of Atwood, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on March 31, 1941, in Goat City, Tennessee, Olivia attended school at Medina where she was crowned Miss Medina High and graduated as Salutatorian of her class in 1959. After high school, Olivia worked at the Humboldt Hosiery Mill and the Milan Arsenal prior to a long tenure of approximately thirty years with Drs. Williams, Williams & Twilla in Milan.
Olivia was a member of Howse Baptist Church, Atwood, serving faithfully as Sunday School teacher and pianist for nearly half a century. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and participated in many causes to help further the ministry both locally and around the globe. Olivia had a charitable and giving heart, and regularly supported a variety of humanitarian efforts for which she was passionate.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hal Lawler, of Atwood; her son, Miles (wife Olita) of Stanford, KY; daughter, Vivian Rishton of Paris, TN; two grandchildren, John Rishton of Clarksville, TN and Cullen Rishton (wife Bailey) of Morehead City, NC; one brother, Brooks Gardner (wife Sheila (deceased) niece, Lindsay Morton (husband Andy) and children, Chloe and Chandler Rimmer; and nephew, Bradley Gardner all of Atwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ludie Smith Gardner.
Arrangements will be held at Bodkin Funeral Home, Milan, with visitation scheduled for Saturday, July 13, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The service will be on
Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Centerville Cemetery near Medina.
The family would like to thank the staff at NHC, Milan, for their compassionate care during Olivia's final days.
