Rachel Virginia Smith formerly of Idlewild passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020, at her home in Milan. She was born in Gibson County on September 23, 1927, to the late George W. and Beulah Jenkins Hayes. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will take place at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery near Milan. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church. She worked as a seamstress for Milan Shirt Factory. Rachel is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dwain Smith of Milan; two sons, Rickey (Ruth Ann) Smith of Bradford, Greg (Nola) Smith of Milan; four grandchildren, Eric Smith of Munford, TN, Brad Smith of Waukesha, WI, Jackie (Josh) Wagner of Milan, and Clint (Sierra) Smith of Binghamton, NY; four great-grandchildren, Jaxon Smith, Levi Wagner, Mia Kate Wagner, and Hayes Wagner; one sister, Opal Lessenberry of Lavinia; and one brother, Chester (Sue) Hayes of Paris, TN. Besides her parents, Rachel is preceded in death by a grandson, Alex Smith, one sister, Ruby Hayes Rainey, and seven brothers, Robert Hayes, Henry Hayes, Thurman Hayes, Raymond Hayes, George Hayes, Jr, James Hayes, and Lyndell Hayes.
