Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Robert Larkin Simons, age 97 of Milan, will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 2 PM, at the Main Street Church of Christ in Milan with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday from 12 2 PM at the church. Mr. Simons was born on February 7,1926 in Cades, TN to Bennie Larkin and Shellie Neill Simons. After World War II began, he joined the U S Navy and was honorably discharged on June 5, 1946. During his time in the Navy, he was baptized by a Navy Chaplain and accepted Christ as his Savior on May 23, 1944, at the U. S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. During the war, Robert was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. For 73 years, he was married to the love of his life, Helen Pugh Simons, and together they called Milan home for most of those years. Helen preceded him in death in 2020. Robert retired as a Rural Postal Carrier from the Milan Post Office. For over 62 years he was a faithful member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Milan. During some of those years, he taught the 6, 7 and 8th grade boys Sunday School Class. He is survived by a nephew James Hammond Baites, nieces Shellie Baites Bosshart, Amy Baites Fischer, Judy Carol Baites, Jamie Baites Pottberg and Donna Pugh Copous. Besides his wife and parents, Mr. Simons was preceded in death by a sister Reba Simons Baites and a nephew Jimmy Pugh.
