Obituary

Miss Velma Curry passed from this earthly life into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 3, 2019, at the home of her niece and caregiver, Martha Gordon. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Bodkin Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Peace Chapel Cemetery in Scotts Hill, TN. Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time at the funeral home. Velma was born to Herbert F and Ozie Kennedy Curry on January 30, 1924, in Scotts Hill, TN in Decatur County. She spent her early years there until the family moved to Milan. Velma worked at the Oak Ridge facility where the atomic bomb was developed, and at ITT, Milan, for many years, retiring from ITT when the plant closed. She faithfully attended First Assembly of God in Milan for 60 years until her health prevented her attendance. Velma loved her church, gospel singing, and her family. Having never married or had children, she was devoted to her family. She will be remembered by all who know her as a Christian lady with a true servant's heart. Velma is survived by her sister, Nema Clenney, and 7 nieces and nephews, Don Clenney, Diane Clenney Reasons, Mike Brown, Marilyn Brown Escue, Elowese Curry Adkisson, Tony Curry, and Martha Curry Gordon, who was her caregiver for the last 2 years. Preceding her were her parents; her siblings, Paul Curry, Marcella Curry Brown, and Helen Curry Clenney; and nephews, Raburn Clenney and Ronnie Curry. The family wishes to thank Caris for the outstanding support provided to the family for the past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peace Chapel Cemetery Fund. Checks made payable to Peace Chapel Cemetery Fund may be mailed to Robbie Lomax, 915 Lomax Road, Decaturville, TN 38329.
