Obituary

Wallace "Brandon" Jones, 50, heartbreakingly died in a car accident on December 26, 2022, after only a year of freedom following his 27 years of wrongful incarceration by the State of North Carolina for a murder he did not commit. Brandon was born in Milan, TN on September 27, 1972, and attended Milan High School. He was kind and hard-working, and prior to going to prison, he was self-employed in home and car repair and whatever else he could do to help someone. In 1994, he was working in Plymouth, NC when he was arrested for the 1993 murder of drug dealer, Frank Swain, after law enforcement obtained coerced, self-motivated, and false statements against him. He proclaimed his innocence at the time of his arrest, during his trial, and for the decades he was incarcerated after his 1995 conviction for first-degree murder at the age of 21. While incarcerated, Brandon was baptized, earned his G.E.D., served as President of the Mens Club, obtained a certificate in welding, and took many self-improvement courses for which he earned high grades and was often on the Deans List. He took over fifty bible study courses and relied heavily on his faith to see him through. Re-entry into society after a long incarceration at such a young age was difficult for Brandon, but many were able to benefit from his kindness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor after his release. He loved being outside whether it was in the mountains, near the water, or just enjoying the free night air. Brandons struggle in this life is over, but his faith was strong and there is no doubt that he has started his new life in a more peaceful and comforting place. He was born to the late Wallace Malcolm Jones and Patricia Ann Cagle, and was raised by James R. and Patricia Cagle, all of whom preceded him in death along with his sisters Lisa Jones and Cindy Hardy. He is survived by sister Cathy Jones Campbell, and many loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Milans Oakwood Cemetery where his parents are buried and a celebration of his life will be held in Williamston, NC on January 14, 2023. Wallace Brandon Jones was innocent. Even if the justice system never acknowledges it, God and all those who knew and loved him know. May he always rest in peace and freedom. Graveside Saturday, January 07, 2023 11:00 AM Oakwood Cemetery US Hwy 45 Milan, TN 38358
