Obituary for Walter C. Bare, Sr. Walter Clay Bare, Sr., age 94, died Monday, November 30, 2015, in Tucson, Arizona. Born September 24, 1921, in Salt Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Carl Camden and Lucy Skelton Bare. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his three wives, Isobel Knapp Bare, Betty Jackson Bare, and Virginia Taylor Bare. His sisters, Mary Bare Mohler and Fannie Bare Upton, his brother, Richard Bare, daughter-in-law, Marsha Flowers, and grandchildren Kim and Bobby also preceded him in death. Walter attended Monroe County West Virginia schools. He left home to attend the New Deal Program, National Youth Administration, for electronics training. Mr. Bare received his draft notice, was inducted into the U.S. Army, and subsequently spent thirty-three months overseas during World War II. He served with honors in England, France, and Germany. He separated from the military after the war as a Staff Sergeant and briefly returned to West Virginia. After World War II, Mr. Bare continued to work for the government as a civilian in Virginia and Illinois. He retired to fish the waters of Kentucky Lake, Tennessee. He relocated to Tucson, Arizona where he continued his life of leisure. Survivors include one sister, Drucella Feamster (Henry), four sons, Dan Taylor (Glenda), Robert Flowers (Donna), Murray Flowers (Marsha-deceased), and Walter C. (Ted) Bare, Jr., two daughters, Linda Loehr (Joe) and Barbara Kay Scarber (Don), his six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His fiance, Margarette Blanton also survives. Walter was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Springville, Tennessee. He was a 55 plus year 32nd degree Mason affiliated with the Radford, Virginia and Paris and Dyer, Tennessee lodges. He recently became a member of the Friends of Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge in Springville, Tennessee. Friends and relatives may call Monday, December 7, 2015, from 12:00-2:00 P.M. at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan, Tennessee. Funeral services with military and Masonic honors will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Paul McAdoo officiating. Graveside services will be held directly after the funeral at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Moores Chapel, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Antioch United Methodist Church, Springville, Tennessee and Friends of Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, Springville, Tennessee. One of his sons said that Walter was as tough as a pine knot. He was also a strong member of the Greatest Generation. Walters motto was Life is what you make it. He lived those words.
